What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inventory Control Specialist position at Primary Talent Partners?
Primary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for a Inventory Control Specialist with our power technology client in York, SC. This is a 5-month contract with a potential for extension.
Pay: $24.75 - $26.25/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to sit on Primary Talent Partners W2 without sponsorship.
Schedule: M-F, 7am - 4pm, (1 hr. lunch break)
Description:
- Under some supervision, enter data into a database or other computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock/inventory and training records; retrieve stored information to respond to enquiries (for example on inventory levels or delivery schedules.)
- Perform other routine administrative activities according to the organization's established procedures.
- These activities may include responding to customer escalations, order allocation, part profile & inventory records; preparing reports, training operators, customs compliance processes, domestic and international transportation related procedures and completing forms (receipt, transfer, delivery, dispatch, etc.)
1) Process Observation and Documentation
- Shadow key functional personnel on a daily basis to observe and document business processes, ERP and supporting software transactions, and standardized work practices. Compile detailed notes and develop formal, site-specific work instructions, including step-by-step procedures and annotated screenshots.
- Under moderate supervision, enter and maintain data within ERP systems, databases, and other computerized tools to ensure accurate inventory, stock status, and training records. Retrieve and analyze stored data to respond to inquiries related to inventory levels, customer orders, and operational metrics.
- Under moderate supervision, serve as the site administrator for the forklift telemetry system and designated SharePoint repositories. Develop and maintain site-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions governing system use, data integrity, and governance.
- Perform routine administrative activities in accordance with established organizational procedures. Activities may include gathering requirements for reports, preparing standard reports or presentations, and supporting knowledge transfer or training of team members on documented processes.
- After achieving proficiency in specific ERP and related software transactions, execute assigned transactions on a recurring basis to support day-to-day supply chain and operational activities.
- Participate in the annual physical inventory (October 8-9, 2026), including pre-inventory preparation, active count activities, and post-inventory reconciliation and documentation support.
Core Skills
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to translate observed work into clear, audit-ready SOPs and work instructions
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, or similar) and standard office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with data entry, inventory records, and system-based transaction accuracy
- Working knowledge of SharePoint or similar document management platforms
- Ability to learn and administer specialized operational systems (e.g., equipment telemetry platforms)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational discipline
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a structured environment
- Basic reporting and data analysis capabilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and operators at multiple levels
- Capable of training others and transferring documented knowledge clearly and professionally
- Prior experience in manufacturing, supply chain, warehouse, or operations environments
- Familiarity with inventory control, physical inventory processes, or compliance-driven documentation
- Exposure to continuous improvement, standardized work, or audit-supported processes (SOX familiarity a plus)
