This role lets you work at the intersection of trading, risk, and operational excellence, supporting critical business functions across multiple locations. Responsibilities
- Analyze and report operational risk events impacting trading activities.
- Identify root causes and key drivers of operational incidents through detailed assessments.
- Monitor risks related to process failures, system issues, compliance concerns, and human error.
- Support development and implementation of mitigation strategies to prevent errors or fraud.
- Contribute to process optimization initiatives using process mapping and mining tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency and resilience.
- Assist in evaluating structured power agreements and related contract performance.
- Deliver insights on risk exposure and opportunities associated with trading structures.
- Support change management initiatives, including stakeholder impact assessments and mitigation planning.
- Develop and maintain operational risk indicators and reporting tools.
- Analyze risk event databases to identify trends and recommend preventative measures.
- Prepare reports for senior leadership outlining risk exposure and mitigation strategies.
- Support governance activities, including risk committees and new product approval processes.
- Maintain documentation, tools, and systems related to operational risk frameworks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, Energy, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in gas and power markets with strong data analysis exposure.
- Solid understanding of North American power markets and energy commodities.
- Experience with structured power transactions, including PPAs, is preferred.
- Proficiency in data and analytics tools such as Excel, VBA, Python, Power BI, or Alteryx.
- Experience in process design, optimization, and process mining methodologies.
- Knowledge of operational risk frameworks and control environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines in complex environments.
- Familiarity with trade lifecycle processes, including trade capture, confirmation, invoicing, and reporting.
