Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Fiber Optic Splicer on behalf of a large and well-established telecommunications organization. This role is ideal for experienced fiber professionals who are passionate about delivering high-quality network installations and maintenance. The Fiber Optic Splicer will be responsible for splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting fiber optic systems in both indoor and outdoor environments while supporting project schedules and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Perform fusion splicing of loose tube and ribbon fiber optic cables.
- Complete fiber terminations, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
- Conduct OTDR testing and analyze test results.
- Research and verify fiber routes in various environments.
- Read and interpret maps, network drawings, and fiber splicing details.
- Drive company vehicles in support of assigned projects.
- Maintain accurate work orders, splice case audits, bills of materials, and related documentation.
- Track outage progress, labor hours, materials, and project status.
- Coordinate building access and customer interactions as required.
- Safely operate fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, aerial lift devices, ladders, and hand tools.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and vehicle maintenance requirements.
- Safeguard company equipment and maintain accurate equipment records.
- Complete assigned work within established project timelines.
- Retrieve and process OTDR traces when necessary.
- Verify the quality and accuracy of completed fiber optic installations and repairs.
- Support additional field operations as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of commercial fiber optic splicing experience.
- Must be at least 24 years of age.
- Ability to pass background and motor vehicle record checks.
- Valid Texas driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements.
- Knowledge of fusion splicing for both loose tube and ribbon fiber optic cables.
- Experience performing mid-sheath splices.
- Proficiency with fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting equipment.
- Experience using OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and related fiber testing tools.
- Ability to read maps, network diagrams, and fiber route documentation.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and support after-hours service needs when required.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to provide personal hand tools.
