Primary Services is actively recruiting for a skilled Fiber Optic Splicer to support a large and well-established client in the telecommunications industry. This role focuses on 100% commercial fiber projects, providing an opportunity to work on complex systems in both indoor and outdoor environments. The position requires strong technical proficiency in fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting, along with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet project timelines.
Responsibilities
- Perform fiber optic splicing, terminations, and mid-sheath splicing for loose tube and ribbon fiber cables.
- Conduct OTDR testing, power meter testing, and troubleshooting of fiber networks.
- Interpret and follow fiber maps, schematics, and splice diagrams.
- Complete and submit work orders, splice reports, and material documentation accurately and on time.
- Operate and maintain equipment, including fusion splicers, OTDRs, aerial lifts, and ladders.
- Drive company vehicle to job sites and ensure compliance with vehicle maintenance requirements.
- Track and report job progress, including labor hours, materials, and outage timelines.
- Coordinate site access and communicate effectively with customers and project stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies and maintain high-quality workmanship standards.
- Safeguard assigned tools and equipment and maintain accurate inventory records.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience in commercial environments.
- Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, and fiber troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to splice both loose tube and ribbon fiber optic cables, including mid-sheath splicing.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber maps and technical documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in physically demanding environments.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.
- Ability to provide personal hand tools required for the role.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to field operations and equipment use.
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record screening.
- Ability to work night shifts and maintain 24/7 availability as needed.
Pay rate: $21–$24 per hour plus overtime, depending on experience.
