Primary Services is excited to announce the role of Demurrage Analyst for a large, established organization. In this role, you will monitor shipment timelines and equipment utilization to minimize demurrage and detention charges. You will collaborate with logistics, operations, and finance teams to ensure containers, railcars, and other transportation assets move efficiently, while reviewing invoices, resolving discrepancies, and supporting reporting initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and track containers, railcars, and other shipments to prevent demurrage and detention charges.
- Coordinate equipment scheduling and movement with internal teams and external carriers.
- Review demurrage and detention invoices for accuracy and contractual compliance.
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies, submitting disputes when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of shipment timelines, equipment utilization, and related costs.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on demurrage activity and trends.
- Communicate with carriers, terminals, and logistics providers to meet shipment deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce demurrage-related expenses.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in transportation and logistics efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and contractual agreements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or demurrage-related roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience reviewing invoices and resolving billing discrepancies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Knowledge of rail, marine, or container logistics operations.
- Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) or ERP systems such as SAP.
- Understanding of carrier contracts and freight billing processes.
- Experience in industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, manufacturing, or logistics preferred.
