About the Role
As a Publicist at Prim, you'll lead day-to-day media relations across a portfolio of client accounts. You'll build and refine media lists, develop strategic story angles, draft compelling pitches, secure earned media coverage, and manage press experiences from start to finish.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting great stories with the right audiences, building authentic relationships with journalists and influencers, and taking increasing ownership of client communication and account strategy.
You'll work closely with clients and the Prim team to execute press trips, media events, media mailers, award submissions, and creative programming that supports client goals and generates meaningful results.
What You'll Do
Account & Client Management
- Develop a strong understanding of each client account, including business goals, communications priorities, target audiences, and recurring deliverables.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and polished media lists, coverage reports, client updates, weekly reports, and campaign materials with minimal editing needed.
- Use Asana and Muck Rack to manage projects, outreach, reporting, and media relations workflows.
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions and contribute thoughtful pitch angles, programming ideas, and campaign recommendations.
- Manage multiple projects at once while maintaining strong attention to detail, follow-through, and clear priorities.
- Support press trips, media events, influencer programs, and client events through RSVP management, backgrounder development, itinerary planning, transportation coordination, staffing, and on-site support.
- Share timely updates, reports, alerts, leads, and relevant opportunities with clients and internal team members.
- Respond to client requests professionally and begin taking on more direct client communication.
- Participate in client calls and meetings, contributing updates, ideas, and next steps as appropriate.
Media Relations
- Lead proactive media relations, including pitching, list building, media visit coordination, and outreach follow-up.
- Develop thoughtful, tailored pitches for journalists, editors, producers, contributors, influencers, and content creators.
- Build, maintain, and continually refine strategic media lists aligned with client goals, markets, and audiences.
- Regularly research newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets, blogs, newsletters, podcasts, and digital publications to identify new angles, editors, contributors, and relationship opportunities.
- Vet incoming media and influencer opportunities, including hosting requests, and provide clear recommendations to clients and account leads.
- Support securing media for press trips and hosted experiences, recommending attendees who align with client goals and campaign strategy.
- Seek opportunities to meet relevant media and influencers one-on-one and build long-term relationships on behalf of Prim and its clients.
- Serve as the point person for media-related client events, media mailers, deliveries, gifting programs, and press opportunities.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as a go-to resource for junior team members by offering guidance, context, and support on account work and media relations best practices.
- Respectfully manage up as needed to ensure reports, updates, media lists, and client deliverables are accurate, complete, polished, and delivered on time.
- Contribute to 90-day and annual planning efforts that support client goals, KPIs, and campaign priorities.
- Anticipate account needs and upcoming deliverables, proactively offering support and solutions to senior team members.
- Collaborate with account leads and agency leadership to maintain a high standard of client service, communication, and execution.
Prim Co / Industry Engagement
- Actively represent Prim within relevant industries, communities, and professional networks.
- Build meaningful relationships through networking organizations, community involvement, media relationships, and industry events.
- Stay informed on public relations, media, influencer marketing, social media, and communications trends.
- Seek out learning opportunities through conferences, workshops, webinars, events, and professional development opportunities.
- Share useful industry insights, contacts, trends, and best practices with the broader Prim team.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 3 years of public relations experience; agency experience preferred.
- Strong writing, editing, pitching, and communication skills.
- Proven experience developing media pitches and securing earned media coverage.
- Excellent organization, project management, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, Asana, and Muck Rack.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms and influencer marketing programs.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and responsiveness.
- A collaborative mindset, sound judgment, and willingness to take initiative.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule, including one in-office day per week.
