What's unique about this job (What you’ll do)
The Manager/Sr. Manager, Benefits – U.S. is responsible for managing employee benefit programs in the United States. The role ensures the delivery of compliant, competitive, and cost-effective benefits across diverse funding arrangements (including Fully Insured, Level-Funded, and Self-Funded models) aligned with the company’s Total Compensation philosophy. The position manages benefit programs which represent a significant annual spend.
This position requires a hands-on approach, strong analytical capability, and a high level of self-management.
U.S. Benefits Management
- Manage and administer all U.S. benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and wellness.
- Partner with broker to evaluate and recommend optimal funding strategies (Fully Insured vs. Self-Funded) based on financial projections, risk tolerance, and market benchmarks.
- Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and renewals to ensure quality, compliance, and cost efficiency.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment processes, employee communications, and data accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc.) and other relevant regulations.
- Partner with Payroll and Finance to ensure accurate funding, reconciliation, and reporting of benefit costs.
- Conduct periodic benchmarking to maintain competitive benefit offerings
Retirement and Savings Plans
- Collaborate with Finance and other departments responsible on the administration and governance of the 401(k) plan as requested.
- Support retirement and savings plans, including compliance testing, audits, and reporting, when requested by leading departments.
- Coordinate with external providers on plan design updates and employee engagement initiatives, in collaboration with relevant departments, as needed.
Governance, Analytics, and Reporting
- Track and analyze benefit costs, utilization, and market trends.
- Prepare reports and dashboards to support management decision-making.
- Maintain documentation for audits, renewals, and compliance purposes.
- Drive fiscal accountability by managing diverse funding requirements —from fixed premiums to variable claims—while overseeing reconciliations, reserves, and stop-loss performance to ensure total budgetary accuracy.
- Identify and propose opportunities for cost management and plan improvements.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and legislative changes impacting health and welfare benefits.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with Compensation, Payroll, Accounting, and PO Business Partners to ensure seamless benefit administration and financial accuracy.
- Serve as subject matter expert on benefits-related matters for the U.S.
- Participate in Total Rewards projects and policy development as assigned.
Partnership with External Benefits Brokers and Consultants
- Serve as the primary liaison with the company’s external benefits brokers and consultants to support U.S. benefit programs.
- Collaborate on plan design reviews, renewals, cost analyses, compliance activities, and benchmarking.
- Coordinate with the consultant and local PO teams to ensure data accuracy, reporting consistency, and timely execution of benefit renewals.
- Partner with the consultant to identify opportunities for improvement, cost efficiency, and alignment with Total Rewards strategy.
Benefits Experience and Education
- Benefits Literacy & Communication: Develop and execute a year-round communication strategy to ensure employees fully understand their coverage, "how to use" their plans, and the hidden value of the Total Rewards package.
- Educational Programming: Curate and lead targeted workshops on high-impact topics such as financial wellness, HSA/FSA optimization, retirement readiness, EAP and mental health resources.
- User Journey Optimization: Audit and refine the end-to-end employee experience for key "life moments"—including onboarding, leaves of absence, and family changes—to ensure seamless benefit transitions and support.
- Advocacy & Navigation: Act as a high-touch resource for employees navigating complex claims or sensitive health issues, providing expert guidance to resolve disputes and maximize plan utilization.
- Sentiment & Feedback: Implement regular pulse surveys and feedback loops to measure employee satisfaction with benefit offerings, using data to identify gaps and drive future plan design improvements.
Bring your passion and expertise (Who you are)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
Experience:
- 8–10 years of experience managing the end-to-end lifecycle of Self-Insured , Self-funded and Level-Funded health arrangements, from strategic design and vendor selection to monthly funding and compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, budgets, and benefit compliance processes.
- Experience collaborating with external benefits brokers (e.g., Mercer, Lockton, WTW or similar).
Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. benefit regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc.).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HRIS systems.
Languages:
- Spanish proficiency highly preferred.
