Food Scientist
My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new two year plus Food Scientist opportunity available for a major firm located in Chicago, Illinois that could be of interest to you. This position pays $45.00 per hour on a w-2 hourly basis.
Qualifications:
Minimum of any Science based degree, Food Science/Technology would be a plus only.
2 years in either a food or other CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) company
General laboratory skills
Computer skills
Ability to work autonomously
Does position require to travel? If yes what %?
Yes, will need own car for travel.
The firms headquarters are in Chicago, average 1 day per week to Chicago.
Occasional visits to the firms factory in South Carolina (Once per month) to conduct factory trials. Travel expenses to be paid.
Scope:
The team will be working on a product improvement project, renovating our existing portfolio of products to make them taste better
Working with multiple teams of product development, science & technology, marketing, consumer research.
The role will be semi-autonomous, where the candidate will be working on their own product based on some guiderails.
Having a scientific approach to problem solving.
Understanding what consumers value in their food.
Clear communication on email and on video calls.
Ability to follow a detailed plan.
Accuracy of laboratory work (weighing ingredients).
Ability to take feedback on results and adapt the product recipe.
A peer will train the candidate on the technical skills.
The candidate will have access to a line manager to coach leadership skills.
Potential for making a permanent role based in a Chicago lab/ office setup.
Progression through R&D organization to Product Development manager in North America.
Learning the products, ingredients and how recipes are built.
Making samples of seasonings based on existing recipes.
Making samples of packaged rice in the pilot plant.
Working on multiple recipes in parallel.
Reporting back progress on the plan.
Create new recipes for existing products to meet latest flavor direction from consumer research.
Creating these recipes in a pilot plant and trial through consumer research.
Make final recipes in factory trials and complete documentation for launch.
