Schedule: Business hours, plus on-call rotation and occasional after-hours Maintenance: Candidates living in northern Colorado and commuting to Cheyenne are welcome; current team members do this today.

Position summary

We are hiring a System Administrator II to administer, maintain and support enterprise infrastructure across a multi-site organization. The organization is moving from VMware to Nutanix, so hands-on Nutanix experience paired with strong networking skills is essential.

This person will diagnose infrastructure issues independently across servers, storage, virtualization, networking and security. They will coordinate with vendors and service providers and support business-critical systems that run 24/7. Rubrik backup and recovery experience is highly desirable.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Nutanix and virtualization

• Administer, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot Nutanix infrastructure, including clusters, hosts, virtual machines, storage and virtual networking.
• Perform health monitoring, maintenance, upgrades and capacity management.
• Troubleshoot performance, availability, storage and connectivity issues in virtualized environments.
• Support infrastructure lifecycle planning and hardware refresh initiatives.
• Support the ongoing transition away from VMware.

Networking

• Configure, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Layer 2/3 switching, routing, VPN, wireless, WAN and network segmentation.
• Troubleshoot connectivity end to end, from the endpoint through switching, routing, firewall, WAN and servers.
• Support multi-site networks and coordinate troubleshooting with telecom carriers and ISPs.

Firewall and security

• Configure, administer and troubleshoot enterprise firewalls, including policies, network objects, NAT rules, VPN connectivity and segmentation.
• Assist with security remediation and infrastructure hardening.
• Work with cybersecurity staff to investigate network and system security issues.

Backup, recovery and business continuity

• Administer and monitor enterprise backup and recovery systems (Rubrik preferred).
• Investigate and remediate backup job failures.
• Perform and validate system, VM and data restores.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning, documentation and testing to meet recovery objectives.

Microsoft infrastructure

• Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.
• Manage users, groups, computers, service accounts and permissions.
• Support hybrid identity and Microsoft cloud services.

Systems administration and operational support

• Monitor server health, capacity, availability and performance; perform patching and OS upgrades.
• Diagnose complex hardware, OS, virtualization, storage and network problems.
• Open and manage vendor support cases and escalations.
• Maintain configurations, network diagrams, inventories and technical documentation.
• Serve as a Tier II/III escalation point and lead troubleshooting during critical outages.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance and an on-call rotation.
• Communicate issues and outages clearly to IT leadership and business stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

• Associate degree in IT, Computer Science, MIS or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 4 years of systems administration, infrastructure or network administration experience.
• Hands-on Nutanix administration experience.
• Strong Windows Server and Active Directory skills.
• Strong enterprise networking knowledge: VLANs, switching, routing, DNS, DHCP, VPN and TCP/IP.
• Practical experience administering enterprise firewalls.
• Experience supporting backup and disaster recovery environments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across servers, storage, virtualization, networking and security.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize in a production environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

• Rubrik administration experience.
• Nutanix certification or advanced Nutanix administration.
• VMware vSphere/vCenter experience.
• Microsoft Azure and Entra ID experience.
• Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco, Sophos, SonicWall or pfSense firewall experience.
• Enterprise wireless networking experience.
• PowerShell scripting.
• Experience supporting multi-site organizations and 24/7 production environments.
• Certifications from Nutanix, Microsoft, Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, VMware or CompTIA.
