What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Service Advisor position at Preventative Maintenance Repair, LLC?
Are you good at reading people, guiding conversations, and helping customers confidently make decisions?
PMR Automotive is looking for an experienced, motivated Automotive Service Advisor to manage customer relationships from the first phone call through vehicle delivery. This is not a high-pressure sales position. We want someone who can listen, educate, build value, and help each customer find the best solution for their vehicle, safety, needs, and budget.
You do not need to be a technician or automotive expert. You do need strong sales and customer-service skills, a working knowledge of vehicles, and the willingness to keep learning.
Compensation
- Base daily pay plus commission
- Uncapped commission based on the gross profit of your individual sales
- Total compensation is performance-based and is not guaranteed
The right advisor will have direct influence over their earning potential through strong communication, consistent follow-up, customer retention, and ethical sales performance.
What You’ll Do
As a Service Advisor, you will own the customer relationship throughout the repair process. Your responsibilities will include:
- Answering incoming calls and professionally greeting customers
- Scheduling appointments according to shop capacity
- Listening carefully and asking the right questions during vehicle intake
- Accurately documenting customer concerns and vehicle information
- Reviewing technicians’ Digital Vehicle Inspections
- Building accurate estimates in our auto shop software program
- Presenting repair and maintenance recommendations
- Helping customers prioritize services based on safety, reliability, and budget
- Keeping customers proactively informed throughout the repair process
- Setting realistic expectations regarding timelines and repair progress
- Coordinating with technicians and shop leadership
- Documenting customer conversations and repair decisions
- Following up on pending estimates, declined services, and completed repairs
- Professionally reviewing completed work during vehicle delivery
- Building long-term relationships that encourage retention, referrals, and repeat business
- Assisting with fleet and commercial customer relationships
Who We’re Looking For
Our ideal Service Advisor is:
- Self-motivated and comfortable taking initiative
- Calm and professional under pressure
- Confident speaking with customers in person and over the phone
- Able to guide and steer a conversation without being pushy
- Skilled at reading people and adjusting their communication style
- Focused on finding the best solution for each customer
- Organized and capable of managing multiple priorities
- Consistent with customer updates and follow-up
- Comfortable asking for the sale and responding to objections
- Innovative and willing to bring new ideas to the team
- Able to balance sales goals with honesty and customer trust
- Interested in learning more about vehicles and automotive technology
Previous automotive Service Advisor experience is preferred. Candidates with excellent sales and customer-service experience may also be considered if they possess sufficient automotive knowledge and the ability to learn quickly.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this position includes:
- Building trust and lasting customer relationships
- Producing accurate estimates promptly

- Following up consistently on pending and deferred work
- Keeping repair orders and customer notes accurate and current

We want a trusted advisor—not someone who simply reads prices from an estimate or pressures customers into a sale.
