We take pride in providing clarity in the details and delivering coverage strategies that help clients feel confident and protected.About the RoleWe are hiring a Commercial Lines Underwriter to underwrite and manage a portfolio of mid-to-large market commercial accounts, balancing profitable growth with strong broker/agent relationships. In this role, you’ll evaluate risk, structure coverage, set pricing and terms, and partner with internal teams to deliver smart, consistent underwriting decisions.This is an ideal opportunity for an underwriter who enjoys working with more complex accounts, collaborating with experienced producers and account teams, and helping drive a strong portfolio strategy.What You’ll DoUnderwrite new and renewal business for mid-to-large market commercial clients, including endorsements and mid-term policy changes.Evaluate risk using submissions, applications, loss runs, financials, claims history, inspections, and market/industry trends.Determine appropriate pricing, coverage, and terms within underwriting authority, ensuring alignment with profitability goals.Present and communicate underwriting decisions clearly to agents/brokers and internal stakeholders.Negotiate terms and pricing while maintaining underwriting discipline and consistency.Build and maintain strong relationships with agents/brokers through responsiveness, guidance, and partnership.Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments (rate actions, coverage changes, renewals/non-renewals, etc.).Ensure all underwriting activity follows internal guidelines, carrier/MGA requirements, and regulatory standards.Maintain accurate file documentation and account activity within Applied Epic (preferred) or a similar Agency Management System (AMS).What We’re Looking For4 years of commercial underwriting experience (depending on level).Demonstrated success underwriting mid-market to larger commercial accounts, including more complex risks and multi-line programs.Strong knowledge of core commercial coverages, including:Commercial PropertyGeneral LiabilityCommercial AutoUmbrella/ExcessWorkers’ Compensation (preferred)Professional and/or Management Liability (nice to have depending on portfolio)Experience working with Applied Epic (preferred) or a similar AMS such as AMS360, Vertafore, HawkSoft, or equivalent.Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with strong attention to detail.Strong communication skills and a consultative approach with agents/brokers.Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain service standards in a fast-paced environment.Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)Experience with complex middle market accounts, layered programs, or specialty linesFamiliarity with industries such as [construction, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, transportation, technology, real estate]Underwriting designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM (or actively pursuing)Strong working knowledge of ISO forms and rating conceptsWhy Join?Competitive compensation bonus potentialComprehensive benefits (medical/dental/vision)401(k)PTO paid holidaysCareer development, training, and designation supportCollaborative underwriting team with growth opportunities
