Customer Application Engineer (Electrical Power Systems / Switchgear) - Illinois
$90,000–$100,000 base benefits | Mon–Fri | Custom Switchgear Manufacturer
Own custom switchgear and power projects from initial RFQ through to final handover.
We’re hiring a Customer Applications Engineer for a well-established manufacturer of custom power distribution, switchgear, control systems, and generator-related equipment serving data centers, utilities, industrial and critical infrastructure clients.
This is a hands-on, technical role with full project visibility - not sales. You’ll be the technical point of contact ensuring every project is accurate, compliant, and build-ready.
What you’ll do:
- Take ownership of projects from inception to completion
- Review RFQs, specs, and drawings; define the technical solution
- Develop technical proposals, pricing inputs, and Bills of Materials
- Produce / coordinate electrical drawings and documentation
- Ensure compliance with NEC, OSHA, UL508, UL891, UL1008, UL1558
- Coordinate with sales, engineering, and manufacturing throughout delivery
- Provide technical guidance through production and project handover
What we’re looking for:
- Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with switchgear, power distribution, or industrial power systems
- Strong ability to read electrical drawings and specifications
- Detail-driven, organised, and comfortable managing multiple projects
- Confident with ERP/quoting tools and MS Office
