What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Band Saw Operator position at PRESCOTT METAL?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
- Band Saw setup, including setup of indexer as required.
- Startup, operate, and shut down the band saw following established procedures and all manufacturer safety guidelines.
- Measure work-piece dimensions throughout the cutting operation to assure quality and repeatability.
- Design or recommend tooling to perform the job more efficiently.
- Sets stops or guides to specified length with tape measure or steel ruler.
- Confirm that all machine guards are in place and operational.
- Maintain log of preventive maintenance (PM) on daily/weekly schedule according to manufacturer recommendations, as well as performing the PM.
- Alert supervisor of any maintenance or repairs that require outside services.
- Observe saw, blades, and machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
- Notify the supervisor of any problems and suggested changes that will allow jobs to run more efficiently.
- Cut and verify tubing, flat bar, round stock etc. and identify as required for various jobs.
- Report accurate material usage and returns for proper inventory.
- Keep work area free of obstacles that may cause slips, trips or falls.
- Consider pallet weight and stacking methods to maintain safe capacity.
- Maintain new-stock storage area.
- Complete training on the battery-operated pallet jack.
- Complete training on the overhead crane and operate as necessary.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Prescott achieve its goals.
In Process Inspection Requirements:
- Verify material type of stock.
- Verify material thickness of stock.
- Check for any material defects or damage.
- Measure twice, cut once.
- Re-verify length every 10 cuts.
- Keep area around stops free of debris that may impact cut size.
- Verify material quantity.
Minimum Qualifications/Technical Knowledge Required:
- High-school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Interpret Job Travelers (work orders).
- Understand cut lists and (BOM) Bill of Materials.
- Identify material types and sizes.
- Read tape measure and dial caliper.
- Convert decimals and fractions, related to what shows on the Job Traveler/blueprints.
