What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entry Level Woodworker and Shop Assistant position at Graywood CNC?
Job Title: Entry-Level Woodworker & Shop Assistant
Location: Graywood CNC
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: Competitive Pay Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays
Graywood CNC is looking for a hardworking, reliable Shop Assistant to help us produce high-end custom wood products. We specialize in everything from custom guitars and furniture to cabinets and architectural millwork.
This is an entry-level position where you will be an essential part of the production process. While you will be trained to operate our CNC milling equipment, you don’t need prior experience with it—we are looking for someone with a passion for woodworking and a rock-solid work ethic.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Production: Learning to set up and manage CNC jobs in a wide range of materials for various industries
- Handwork: Preparing materials, trimming, sanding, and light finishing
- Shop Maintenance: Keeping the workspace organized and performing basic maintenance on saws, sanders, and CNC equipment.
- Material Handling: Moving lumber and plywood and preparing it for production.
Who You Are:
- A craftsman or a maker at heart
- Reliable: You show up on time, every time, and take pride in your work.
- Safety-First: You have a deep respect for power tools and follow safety protocols to the letter.
- Eager to Grow: You want to learn the trade, from traditional woodcraft to modern CNC programming and design.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements: We believe in being upfront: this is a wood shop and contract manufacturing environment.
- Physical Work: You must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs (plywood/hardwood) regularly.
- Environment: The shop is loud and can be dusty. You must be comfortable wearing PPE (eye protection, ear protection, and dust masks/respirators).
- Temperature: The shop can get quite hot during the summer months.
The Opportunity: For the right candidate, this isn't just a job—it's an apprenticeship in modern manufacturing. We will provide all the training you need to move from assistant to a skilled operator, and eventually into CNC design and programming.
How to Apply: Send us a quick note about your favorite project you've ever built (or worked on) and why you're interested in woodworking to eric@graywoodmaine.com
