Under guidance of the VP Operations, the Plant Manager is responsible for leading Plant Operations and Maintenance to accomplish annual corporate business goals of safety, quality, customer satisfaction, productivity and cost. This position is responsible for planning, daily manufacturing, purchasing, and distribution operations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embraces the 1 T.E.A.M. culture
  • Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work and in accordance with Safety Policy and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by practicing safe work habits, good housekeeping procedures and adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Oversee that plant is open daily
  • Review/Confirm previous days request for shipments
  • Review all production for previous day for errors, exceptions, and variances
  • Review/Address all quality issues, if necessary metallurgical testing to confirm concerns by customer and/or potential usage of steel.
  • Filling and publish plant matrix on a monthly basis
  • Coordinate with scheduling and sales for timely completion of work orders
  • Schedule staff per shift and machine, including weekend staffing based on production needs
  • Manage day to day Maintenance issues, parts, supplies to make sure plant is running efficiently and safe and producing quality product
  • Purchase parts (for repair and preventative inventory) and all general supplies
  • Maintain all outside steel processing documents as received
  • Manage maintenance budget with executive team to minimize cost of doing business within the plant
  • Adherence to plant rules and procedures
  • Establish/Direct plant policies, procedures, and daily operations
  • Develop and support supervisors
  • Train and develop team members to maximize production, foster a positive worker & working environment, conduct employee performance reviews, evaluate employee compensation, and corrective action.
  • Responsible for plant production goals based on a combined coordination of purchasing, production, shipping, and sales.
  • Manage all zones/areas to assure all safety policies are adhered to and all areas are clean.
  • Monitor training of new and current employees by classified workers
  • Review ship log
  • Team meetings and tracking plant metrics
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of Supervisors, Team Leads and Teammates in Plant Operations.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employee; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and disciplining employee.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of steel processing, production processes, quality control, costs, and other requirements related to efficient manufacturing. Individual must have specific understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as compliance to ISO 9000 quality systems requirements.
  • Mechanical -Basic knowledge of manufacturing equipment, cranes, tow motors and proper building and facilities maintenance.
  • Administration and Management knowledge
  • Competent individual must have knowledge of business and management principles involved in resource allocation, leadership, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Individual must understand our Corporate Mission, strategies and customer direction.
  • Position is responsible for hiring, training and motivation of workforce. Establish and reinforce plant rules relating to safety, quality and efficient production practices.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and how it impacts production, inventory, quality and customer requirements. A basic knowledge equipment computer hardware and software is required


Education Requirements

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree, required
  • Minimum 7-10 years supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
  • Industry knowledge and experience, preferred.
