Summary
We are looking for a Sandblaster who will be responsible for prepping surfaces for coating and operating abrasive blasting equipment to remove contaminants. They must also be able to use specialized tools to remove rust, paint, and grease, ensuring proper texture and cleanliness while adhering strictly to safety protocols, including Personal Protective Equipment and ventilation. Sandblasters must have excellent attention to detail and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Clean metal surfaces by removing rust, mill scale, weld spatter, grease, and dirt using abrasive media
- Set up, operate, and maintain the sandblast booth and related blasting equipment.
- Apply tape and masking materials to protect areas not meant to be blasted.
- Wear required PPE (air-supplied suits, hoods) and follow all safety standards, including hazardous material handling.
- Perform routine maintenance, clean equipment, and keep the work area orderly.
- Assist with painting or other prep tasks as needed to keep the line moving.
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
- Follow safety rules and quality standards.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary work.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees and supervisors
- Previous industrial sandblasting experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with power tools.
- Proficiency in the use of supplied-air respirators (SAR) or force-fed blast hoods.
- Must pass medical evaluations for respirator use and possess the stamina to handle high-pressure hoses for long shifts.
- High school diploma or GED .
Physical requirements include the ability to:
- Greater than 90% of the work is accomplished in the Sandblasting pit.
- Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand wrist motion, and legs, and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, standing for long periods of time, and handling materials.
- Required to wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous dust, including crystalline silica.
- Work environment is often dusty and subject to extreme heat or cold depending on the outdoor conditions.
- May be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
- You may be asked to lift and carry up to 50-100 pounds.
