Job Summary
The Manager of EHS is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive environmental, health, and safety program that ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a culture of safety and sustainability across operations. This role ensures safe handling of time- and temperature-sensitive biopharmaceutical materials, minimizing risk to personnel, assets, and the environment, and supporting operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Maintain adherence to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) standards
- Oversee compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements for hazardous materials
- Keep up-to-date with changes in environmental, health, and safety laws and standards affecting life sciences logistics
Risk Assessment & Mitigation
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments for facilities, warehouse operations, and transportation logistics
- Identify potential environmental hazards, workplace safety risks, and chemical/process risks
- Collaborate with operational teams to minimize touchpoints that increase risk in handling biopharmaceuticals
Environmental Management
- Implement and maintain environmental programs including waste management, emissions control, and sustainability initiatives
- Ensure compliance with EPA regulations and internal sustainability targets
- Manage initiatives to optimize Free Trade Zone operations with minimal environmental impact
- Report environmental metrics to senior management and regulatory authorities as required
Health & Safety Programs
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs tailored to high-value, temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical logistics
- Conduct and oversee safety training for all employees, contractors, and visitors
- Manage emergency response plans, drills, and incident investigations
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all global gateways and facilities
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Monitor EHS performance metrics and prepare reports for executive leadership
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk, losses, and costs while improving operational efficiency
- Collaborate with Quality & Compliance teams to integrate EHS requirements into all operational processes
- Support facility design and operational planning from an EHS perspective, ensuring compliance in GMP pharmaceutical warehouses and temperature-controlled logistics environments
Leadership & Communication
- Lead cross-functional EHS initiatives with operational, quality, and logistics teams
- Advise management on regulatory requirements, risk mitigation strategies, and best practices
- Serve as primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and external EHS consultants
- Foster a proactive safety culture among employees and contractors through engagement and training
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety management, preferably in pharmaceutical logistics, warehousing, or regulated industries
- Experience with OSHA, EPA, and ISO 14001/45001 compliance
- Proven track record managing Process Safety Management (PSM) or Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs
- Experience in pharmaceutical logistics, GMP warehousing, or temperature-controlled supply chain environments strongly preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001/45001, and other relevant safety/environmental standards
- Expertise in risk assessment, process safety management (PSM), root cause analysis (RCA), and emergency response planning
- Knowledge of logistics, warehousing, GMP pharmaceutical operations, and temperature-controlled supply chains
- Excellent leadership, communication, and training skills
- Analytical skills to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices across multiple facilities
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Lead Auditor
- ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System Lead Auditor
- Hazardous Materials Management or Risk Management Professional (RMP) certification
- OSHA 30-hour General Industry and/or Construction certification
- Lean/Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement certification (preferred for process optimization)

Work Environment
This position requires regular presence at warehouse and logistics facilities, including GMP pharmaceutical warehouses and temperature-controlled environments. The role involves both office-based work and on-site facility inspections. May require occasional travel to multiple facility locations.
