We are seeking a technically strong and hands-on
New Product Development (NPD) Manager
to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team in Newark, NY. This leader will oversee the full product lifecycle—concept definition, design, prototyping, testing, validation, and transition into production. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals (mechanical, electrical, firmware/software) with proven leadership, customer-facing communication skills, and the ability to drive multiple programs to completion. This role is critical to supporting organizational growth, operational excellence, and new product innovation.
Refined Essential Functions (Clear, Technical)
Product Development Leadership
- Direct day-to-day execution of all NPD phases, including requirements definition, design reviews, hardware/software/firmware development, prototyping, testing, validation, and production transition.
Process Ownership & Continuous Improvement
- Own NPD processes (QAP03, QAP50) ensuring compliance with ISO-driven development workflows.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives; identify inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
Program & Financial Management
- Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, and risk plans.
- Deliver detailed monthly program reviews to executive leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales, Operations, Quality, and Executive teams to align product roadmaps with business objectives.
Customer-Facing Technical Leadership
- Prepare proposals, statements of work, and technical reports.
- Serve as escalation point for engineering issues and maintain strong customer relationships.
Team Building & Mentorship
- Recruit, train, mentor, and develop engineers and project managers.
- Foster a high-performing culture focused on accountability, technical excellence, and timely delivery.
Refined Qualifications (Structured & Technical)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Experience
- 5 years in engineering leadership roles
(NPD, R&D, Product Engineering, or related). - Background in
power systems, battery technology, chargers, power supplies
, or similar domains
required. - Experience transitioning products into
high-volume production
environments.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and firmware/software engineering workflows and dependencies.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and applicable regulatory/industry standards (IEC, UL, CE, TSO, Military).
Leadership & Communication
- Strong program management capability; able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
