Position Description:
The Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and modeling HVAC system components and assemblies. This position works closely with engineering and applications teams to ensure HVAC products meet established technical, functional, quality, reliability, durability, and performance requirements. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer provides functional oversight and guidance for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) related to product design and application modifications.
· Support customers, sales, and production with design revisions, including updates to engineering drawings and 3D models.
· Partner with other engineers on new and existing projects and take ownership of smaller engineering projects as assigned.
· Design, update, and maintain mechanical drawings, electrical/wire harness drawings, and 3D CAD models for specific product applications.
· Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings for electrical systems and wire harnesses.
· Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and establish appropriate dimensional requirements to improve product fit and function.
· Work directly with products and components to evaluate and integrate system designs.
· Design and develop mechanical and mechatronic components that meet required performance, durability, and reliability standards.
· Create and execute engineering test plans to evaluate component and HVAC system performance, reliability, and compliance with customer specifications.
· Prepare and maintain project documentation, including Bills of Material (BOMs), build concerns, engineering reports, and validation testing records.
· Coordinate with Purchasing and suppliers to transition designs into production and ensure manufacturability.
· Provide technical engineering support to Manufacturing, Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA), and Quality teams when implementing changes to equipment, tooling, processes, or production methods.
· Assist with troubleshooting and resolving design or production-related issues using structured engineering and problem-solving techniques.
Qualifications & Experience:
· Associate degree or higher in Engineering, Mechanical Design, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
· 2–3 years of experience in CAD modeling and development of engineering drawings.
· Experience with automotive, bus, commercial vehicle, or HVAC systems is preferred but not required.
· Strong proficiency with 3D Drafting is required.
· Knowledge of sheet metal design and fabrication is preferred.
· Experience designing wire harnesses and interpreting or creating electrical schematics is preferred.
· Experience working with ERP systems..
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines.
· Self-directed, dependable, and results-driven with the ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
· Ability to communicate effectively with internal departments, customers, suppliers, and international partners.
· Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with experience applying structured problem-solving methods.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across multiple departments.
