Each publication stands out for its unique content and design, available through subscriptions, retail locations across Western Washington, distribution at select hotels and resorts, and more.
This year, we’re excited to expand with the addition of West Sound magazine, and we’re looking for a talented assistant editor to join our creative team. As a key contributor, you’ll help carry out the editorial direction, freelance assignments, contract fulfillment, copy editing, design recommendations, layout, and production of our magazines, house marketing campaigns, update websites, newsletters, and support company editorial efforts that elevate all our brands, with a focus on West Sound coverage.
What You will Do:
As an assistant editor, you will help our publications, collaborating closely with creative and editorial leadership. Your responsibilities will include:
- Create visually engaging editorial.
- Work well remotely and with a team.
- Utilizing current brand design guidelines all the while incorporating creative excellence.
- Help ensure timely production and high-quality results as needed with design team.
- Stay up to date on media trends and contribute creative ideas to elevate our publications and media.
- Be involved in our communities, serve our communities, and identify how you/we can elevate our voice within our communities, with a particular emphasis on the West Puget Sound cities of Bremerton, Gig Harbor, Poulsbo, Port Orchard, and more.
- Self-manage with excellence and strong work ethic.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate
Education & Experience:
- College degree in journalism or related field and 3 years of professional experience in the field of journalism.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of journalism and AP principles.
- Familiarity with digital journalism for websites, newsletters, and social media.
- Basic understanding of print production and file preparation.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn.
- A great writing voice, tone, and appreciation for reading.
