Additional Requirements
Type of degree: Allied Health
Area of study or major: Diagnostic Medial Sonography
Preferred educational qualifications: Associate degree or graduate of an accredited program
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Registry in practiced specialty is required as approved by ARDMS: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography (RDCS by ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI.
CPR Certification required
Active member of ARDMS or CCI in Ultrasound
Experience
Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience
Preferred experience: 6 to 12 months of clinical experience in Ultrasound
Knowledge/Skills
Proficient in performing diagnostic procedures and obtaining diagnostic images for physician interpretation
Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Proficient in CCW/CCI and Image Storage
Advanced US applications
Proficient in scanning high acuity patients

Essential Duties And Functions
- Performs US procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates Ultrasound studies for technical image quality.
- Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the US procedure.
- Performs daily and weekly QC as required.
- Practices sterile technique as required.
- Assists Cardiologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.
- Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction
- Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam.
- Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.
- Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.
- Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.
- Proficient to provide quality scans for high acuity procedures, including but not limited to: Mitral Clip, Watchman, TAVR, TMVR, Impella, valvuloplasty, myomectomy, & pericardiocentesis.
- Transthoracic echocardiograms
- Transesophageal echocardiograms
- Exercise and Dobutamine echocardiograms
- Structural Heart Program (TAVR, TMVR, Mitral-Clip, Watchman Device, Valvuloplasty, Myomectomy)
- ECMO, Impella, Transplant
- Pericardiocentesis
- Specialized protocols (strain, 3D assessment, contrast)
- Other Duties & Functions:
- Other duties or functions to meet patient, departmental, or organizational needs as assigned
