General Ledger & Payroll Accountant
Wilmington, Delaware (Onsite Mon–Thu | Remote Fridays)
A growing and highly respected professional services firm is seeking a General Ledger & Payroll Accountant to join its finance team in Wilmington, Delaware. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career accounting professional (0–2 years experience) who is eager to learn, grow, and develop strong technical accounting and payroll skills.
This position reports directly to the Director of Treasury and will play an important role supporting payroll processing, general ledger accounting, and the monthly close process while collaborating with HR, Finance, and Operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Assist with payroll processing for approximately 1,300 employees using Workday
- Maintain payroll files and reconcile payroll data for each payroll cycle
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and bank entries in the general ledger
- Support the monthly close process, including account reconciliations and accruals
- Assist with 401(k) processing and reconciliation
- Support year-end W-2 processing and payroll reporting
- Work closely with the accounting and finance teams to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects across finance and operations
Initially the role will focus approximately 70% on payroll and 30% on general ledger accounting, gradually evolving to a more balanced accounting role as experience grows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 0–2 years of accounting or payroll experience (internships welcome)
- Strong Excel skills
- Exposure to Workday or ERP systems is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Self-starter who can work independently and think critically
- Ability to work onsite in Wilmington, DE four days per week
Compensation & Benefits
