Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a wide range of dental procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments with precision and care.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use following strict aseptic techniques.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging and 3D scans, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage patient records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, ensuring all medical documentation is complete and up-to-date.
- Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort throughout procedures to promote a safe and positive experience.
- Support infection control protocols by following OSHA guidelines, maintaining sterile fields, and practicing proper disposal of contaminated materials.
- Collaborate seamlessly with the dental team in four-handed dentistry setups to optimize workflow efficiency and patient care quality.
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software systems including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Epic, or similar EMR platforms for scheduling, documentation, and medical records management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice.
- Experience with dental imaging techniques such as X-ray procedures and 3D scanning technology used in advanced diagnostics.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices to effectively assist in treating young patients with patience and care.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a friendly demeanor that puts patients at ease.
- Understanding of medical terminology relevant to dentistry and the ability to document medical coding accurately for procedures performed.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Experience working in general dentistry environments with exposure to prosthodontics, endodontics, and other specialties is highly desirable.
