Industrial Machine Maintenance Technician – Responsibilities
The Industrial Machine Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and supporting the installation of industrial equipment used in manufacturing and production operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment reliability, workplace safety, and minimal production downtime. The technician works closely with leadership, production teams, and fellow maintenance staff to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
Core Maintenance Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of industrial machines and facility equipment.
- Install, maintain, rebuild, and modify production machinery under the direction of maintenance leadership.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Support maintenance needs for forklifts, overhead cranes, mills, grinders, lathes, and related equipment.
- Apply basic machinist skills as needed to fabricate, modify, or repair components.
- Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and material handling devices to perform maintenance tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and facilities to identify wear, damage, or unsafe conditions.
- Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in equipment reliability improvements by identifying repeat failures or maintenance trends.
- Accurately document repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities as required.
- Follow and enforce all company safety, health, quality, and environmental policies at all times.
- Perform maintenance activities using proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and energy isolation practices.
- Conduct safety inspections of machines and work areas before, during, and after maintenance work.
- Use required PPE when working with machinery, electrical systems, or hazardous environments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to prevent accidents and downtime.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, or near misses immediately to supervision.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and production teams regarding equipment status, repair timelines, and safety concerns.
- Work collaboratively with other maintenance technicians and departments to minimize operational disruptions.
- Support emergency maintenance needs and respond appropriately to urgent equipment failures.
- Participate in ongoing training related to equipment, safety standards, and maintenance best practices.
- Assist in training or mentoring less experienced maintenance personnel when requested.
- Stay current on evolving technologies, controls, and equipment relevant to the facility.
- Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned to support maintenance, production, and facility operations.
