The Quality Manager drives continuous improvement, oversees product and process quality, and ensures that all quality systems and documentation meet the stringent requirements of nuclear applications.
Essential Functions
- Lead and manage the site’s Quality Assurance function, ensuring full alignment with ISO 19443 and nuclear industry expectations.
- Develop and implement site-wide quality goals, procedures, and systems tailored to the production of welding consumables used in nuclear applications.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement across all departments, including welding operations and testing.
- Maintain and communicate a comprehensive Quality Plan to ensure the site’s Quality Management System (QMS) complies with ISO 19443, ASME Section II and IX, RCC-M, and internal Key Operational Indicators (KOIs).
- Collaborate with Commercial, Operations, Technology, and Supply Chain teams to ensure consistent product quality, reliable raw material sourcing, and timely delivery.
- Work closely with the Compliance Officer to ensure accurate and timely Certificates of Material Test Reports (CMTRs), traceability, and regulatory documentation.
- Define and implement clear quality standards and inspection criteria for welding consumables, including fluxes, wires, and electrodes, with a focus on nuclear-grade requirements.
- Oversee manufacturing and testing procedures to ensure proper execution and compliance; deliver targeted quality training to staff, including nuclear-specific quality awareness.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement quality procedures and improvement initiatives, including change management, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Manage quality inspection and product release programs for incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods, ensuring full traceability and documentation.
- Ensure proper documentation control and execution of formal Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Support internal and external audits, including ISO 19443 certification, ASME code compliance, and customer-specific nuclear audits.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Drive supplier quality initiatives and ensure compliance with nuclear industry standards for raw materials and outsourced processes.
- Maintain awareness of evolving nuclear quality standards and regulatory changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in welding consumables or metals.
- Proven leadership in Quality Assurance, including implementation of plant-wide quality systems and initiatives.
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 19443 standards; experience with ASME Section II, V, and IX, and RCC-M standards is required.
- Experience supporting nuclear industry compliance and audits is highly preferred.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification are preferred.
- Quality Engineer certification is a plus.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, SPC, and quality improvement tools.
