Lab Automation Specialist

Job Summary:
You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated workflows in a progressive laboratory. You will provide support for lab analysis through equipment maintenance and extensive troubleshooting. You will be able to perform your responsibilities with a high degree of independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meaningfully contribute ideas for lab automation process improvements, data systems, and associated equipment
- Extensive troubleshooting and maintenance of associated lab equipment
- Manage backup equipment and spare parts inventory
- Maintain lab data systems to include development, testing, and troubleshooting
- Program automated liquid handlers and associated integration equipment
- Multitask and coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
- Manage service ticket priorities and response times
- Program liquid handling systems and robotic automation tools
- Integrate automated data acquisition and processing pipelines
- Collaborate with scientific teams to identify automation opportunities
- Provide production support for chemists and analysts as required
- Develop scripts and APIs to enhance system interoperability
- Support integration with data management and control platforms
- Adhere to safety and housekeeping requirements
- Keep supervisor informed of all key quality findings and issues
- Follow all laboratory methods, protocols and SOPs as well as company procedures, guidelines, and policies
- Collaboratively perform other duties as needed to support company goals; may include providing back-up to lab staff and/or lab leader
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences, OR a computer science degree, OR engineering degree, OR equivalent experience.
- Experience with liquid handling systems (Dynamic Devices, Tecan, Beckman, or similar) and workflow automation.
- Experience in a lab setting
- Computer technology experience and the ability to learn systems quickly and effectively
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) preferred
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and strong attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills; the ability to communicate (verbal/writing) effectively at all levels and with all customers, internally and externally
- Dependable and punctual; ability to work flexible hours, including late nights and/or weekends as needed

Work Environment:
This position is located in an office/lab environment with frequent use of laboratory instruments and tools, computer and related hardware. A person must be able to stand and/or sit and effectively move around the building and lab workspaces; see, hear and talk; use hands to type, handle or feel tools or controls; use hands and arms to reach.
This position requires lifting up to 25lbs, and use of PPE when working with urine, saliva, or other samples, or with chemicals and other substances, within our lab environment.
