Job Summary
Performs engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives and involves conventional types of plans and specifications. Details Customer’s drawings, or prepare shop drawings of complicated parts, equipment, and assemblies; including various views, sectional profiles, and small or intricate details from sketches or customer's drawings to relate pertinent information to shop personnel. Work in a dynamic, and the diverse industrial environment with broad exposure to all segments of industry requiring fabricated metal products from A to Z
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain high standards with respect to honesty, ethics, and work attitude.
- Understand and follow Petersen Inc. procedures regarding quality, safety, business ethics, etc.
- Create and evaluate project designs in conjunction with the design engineer.
- Create engineering drawings, layouts, change orders, etc. that clearly and concisely describe the project in a timely manner.
- Apply drafting standards and practices adopted by Precenmac or as required by the customer.
- Development of engineering calculations (structural/component sizing/rigging).
- Work with customers through design reviews and resolve calculation comments.
- Perform research and gather information to support the selection of components, processes, and sources to support design success.
- Understand and expend the extra effort to follow Petersen Inc. procedures regarding drawing control, drawing change control, drafting standards, file backup, etc.
- Maintains complete design backup information in the job folder.
- Thoroughly checks drawings created by other designers when assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be proficient in blueprint reading, and have good drafting skills, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Able to perform basic tolerance studies and dimensional analysis. General knowledge of applicable design codes, standards, and engineering design principles and principles and practices.
- General computer knowledge. 2 years experience working with CAD systems (SolidWorks) and can test and qualify for the SolidWorks Certified Design Associate level or higher.
- Effective Math Skills. Geometry, Descriptive Geometry, Algebra, and Trigonometry. Working knowledge of FEA (Ansys) is a plus.
- ASME Section VIII, Div 1 & 2 pressure vessel design experience a plus (Compress).
- Desire to become a licensed Profession Engineer a plus. Basic knowledge and experience with 3D printing are a plus.
- General knowledge of machining and fabrication processes and capabilities.
- Must be familiar with the design process and specifications leading to construction documents.
- Ability to perform designs using CAD.
- Assignments require the investigation of a limited number of variables and supervisory assistance is provided on unusual problems.
- Should have considerable experience in the design of commercial office buildings, and industrial construction buildings.
- Must have initiative.
- Will work independently. Must possess a strong desire to learn.

- Good project prioritization and organizational skills.
- Good logical decision-making skills.

Minimum Requirements:
4-year Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a minimum of 3 5 years of experience. SolidWorks experience desired. Ansys experience desired. Practical experience may be considered in lieu of MSME degree

Essential Physical Functions:
Requires sitting for prolonged periods. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, photocopiers, calculators, etc. Requires vision correctable to within normal range for designing, spreadsheets, etc. Requires the ability to give and receive communication to different levels of the organization
