Summary
Job Summary: Administrative position responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling the department of nursing and patient services. Has responsibility, authority and accountability for nursing practice, nursing education and nursing research activities. Provides consultation services to other departments within the hospital.
The incumbent serves as a member of the Executive Team, and will have a voice in policy setting, budgeting, and professional development for the Nursing Department staff. The position reports to the President and CEO. This position is responsible for directing activities of the nursing department which includes, but is not limited to, staffing and management of approximately 140 nursing department employees and up to 20 direct reports including directors, managers, and non-supervisory staff.
Responsibility includes overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the following units: Inpatient Care Services (Med/Surg, ICU, and LDRP), Outpatient Care Services (Emergency, Ambulatory and Surgical Services), Home Health and Transitions of Care, Pharmacy, Staff Education, and Safety. The ideal candidate will possess extensive supervisory experience, strong leadership skills, employs a teamwork approach which not only empowers subordinates but also focuses on accountability, with great people skills and excellent communication styles for use in the nursing unit.
This will be a 4-month temporary position with the candidate having the option to apply for the permanent CNO position when posted.
Job Qualifications: BSN and Master's Degree prepared (MSN, MBA, HSA). Must obtain Kansas RN licensure prior to employment. Five (5) years of senior nurse leadership experience with 3 years at the executive (CNO/VP) level. Previous acute care nursing background is essential. Proven track record of developing and implementing programs and strategies based on organizational assessments and needs analysis. Excellent budgetary skills and experience reflecting fiscally responsible strategies. Sets standards of accountability for nursing leadership team. Able to develop positive and professional relationships with physicians.
