Position Summary
Prairiewood is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Facilities Manager to fully manage the ongoing operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our facilities, grounds, and infrastructure.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for both managing and actively performing maintenance work across all properties. The ideal candidate will lead daily operations, supervise staff and vendors, and also directly contribute to repairs, troubleshooting, and upkeep as needed.
This role is critical to ensuring our properties operate safely, efficiently, and beautifully —maintaining both the built environment and the natural landscape that define Prairiewood. You will work closely with ownership to align maintenance strategies with organizational goals while taking an active role in their execution.

Responsibilities
Facility & Grounds Operations
- Oversee and personally assist with maintenance and repair of all building systems —including Union Hall, Prairiewood’s sister property
- Ensure issues are resolved quickly to minimize disruption to operations
- Manage and support hands-on upkeep of grounds, including landscaping, trails, outdoor spaces, and natural areas
- Ensure properties are visually appealing, safe, and guest-ready at all times
- Coordinate and perform seasonal work such as mowing, snow removal, irrigation, and land management
- Manage vendor and contractor relationships to ensure high-quality service
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and help carry them out in the field
- Schedule inspections and routine servicing to reduce downtime
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
Team Leadership
- Lead, train, and support a team of maintenance and grounds staff
- Conduct performance reviews and ongoing training
- Promote a strong culture of safety and accountability
Project Management
- Manage facility improvement projects, renovations, and upgrades
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets
- Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders
Emergency & On-Call Management
- Develop and manage emergency response plans
- Establish and maintain a 24/7 on-call structure
- Personally respond to critical issues when needed

Requisites
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance or building operations
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general systems
- A hands-on leader who is comfortable both managing and performing physical work
- Experience managing teams, vendors, and budgets
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong discernment and critical thinking skills
- Service-oriented mindset and finds joy in providing for others
Preferred
- Experience with maintenance tracking systems
- Land conservation values and love of nature
- Prior maintenance experience with outdoor recreation or conservation locales (e.g., summer camp, national park, forest service, etc.)
