Our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team provides intensive, community-based support to help individuals stay stable, safe, and independent. We’re looking for someone with lived experience, a compassionate approach, and a strong sense of purpose to join our multidisciplinary team.
About the Role
As a Peer Support Specialist, you’ll walk alongside participants in their recovery journey—offering encouragement, practical tools, and honest conversation grounded in your own lived experience. You’ll support individuals in their homes and out in the community, helping them build coping skills, wellness routines, daily living skills, and confidence in making their own treatment decisions.
You’ll manage your own schedule, collaborate closely with clinicians and case managers, and participate in a rotating 7-day on-call schedule every 6–8 weeks.
What You’ll Do
Recovery Support

Share helpful aspects of your own recovery experience to inspire hope and reduce stigma.

Help participants challenge negative thoughts, set achievable goals, and build self-advocacy skills.

Teach daily living skills, coping strategies, and wellness tools.

Facilitate recovery-focused groups and activities.

Assist participants in developing Person-Centered Plans and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plans).

Support early identification of triggers and crisis warning signs.
Community-Based Services

Meet participants primarily in their homes or within the community.

Promote independence and meaningful engagement in daily life.

Offer culturally sensitive, respectful support.
Teamwork & Documentation

Complete documentation accurately and on time.

Participate in ACT team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.

Communicate with community partners only when proper authorization is obtained.

Maintain confidentiality and uphold Prairie View’s mission and values.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll be a strong fit if you bring empathy, consistency, and a genuine desire to help others succeed. Requirements include:

Education: High school diploma or GED; able to obtain Kansas Peer Support Worker certification upon hire (includes background checks and state-approved training).

Lived Experience: You identify as a current or former primary user of mental health services.

Age: 18 or older.

Communication Skills: Strong listening, verbal, and written communication.

Work Style: Punctual, self-driven, flexible, and able to manage your own schedule.

Transportation: Valid Kansas driver’s license; insurable through Prairie View; able to transport participants as needed.

Professional Boundaries: Able to maintain healthy, appropriate boundaries with peers and participants.

Technical Skills: Basic keyboarding and word-processing.

Clearances: Able to pass KBI check and Adult/Child Central Registry screenings.
