Job Description for a Long-Term, Site-Based Role
Position Overview
The Senior Commissioning Manager is a critical member of the General Contractor team, responsible for overseeing and managing all commissioning activities on a single, long-term construction site. This leadership role ensures that all building systems and components are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to the project requirements and industry standards. The Senior Commissioning Manager collaborates closely with project stakeholders to deliver a high-quality, fully functional facility.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the commissioning process for all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty systems.

Develop and implement the project commissioning plan, schedules, and protocols in alignment with contract documents and client expectations.

Work collaboratively with design teams, subcontractors, vendors, and client representatives to ensure commissioning requirements are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.

Oversee and facilitate functional performance testing, system start-ups, and troubleshooting activities.

Review and verify installation, operation, and maintenance documentation for compliance and completeness.

Maintain detailed records of commissioning progress, issues, resolutions, and test results.

Identify and address deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with responsible parties.

Ensure adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations during commissioning activities.

Provide regular updates and reports to project leadership and the client, highlighting key milestones and challenges.

Lead commissioning meetings, workshops, and training sessions for project stakeholders.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CxA, LEED AP) preferred.

Minimum of 10 years of commissioning experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial or lead role on large-scale projects.

Comprehensive understanding of building systems and construction processes.

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex schedules in a dynamic site environment.

Proficiency in commissioning software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work on-site for the duration of the project (long-term assignment).

Qualifications:
To qualify for this role, you must have the following background:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, is a plus
- 5 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and building controls systems, with 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building system engineering principles.
- Proven experience in commissioning management (vendor, Cx agent, subcontractor, or GC Cx management).
- Expertise in LOTO/Control of Hazardous Energy Programs.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex technical scopes.
