The Harlingen VA Health Care Center is seeking a Gastroenterology Staff Physician to provide comprehensive GI care in a well-supported outpatient-focused VA practice. This position offers excellent work–life balance, no call, and the opportunity to care for Veterans in a collaborative federal healthcare environment.
Position Highlights
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- No call, no weekends
- Patient Volume: 5–10 patients per day (subject to change)
- Practice Location: Health Care Center & Ambulatory Surgery Center, Harlingen, TX
- Provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care
- Diagnose and manage GI conditions, with a focus on hepatitis care
- Develop and implement diagnostic and therapeutic care plans
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care and provide patient/family education
- Participate in clinical, educational, and research activities, as appropriate
Expected proficiency may include:
- EGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Polypectomy, PEG placement, small bowel and liver biopsy
- Esophageal dilation, motility studies, band ligation, sclerotherapy
- Stent placement, laser therapies, and treatment of GI bleeding
- Competitive federal physician salary (base market pay)
- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Up to $200,000

- Current, unrestricted U.S. medical license
- DEA eligibility
- 3–5 years GI experience preferred (VA or DoD experience a plus)
- Teaching, mentoring, or research experience desirable
Salary : $60,000
