Cardiology - Non-Invasive Physician - Administration Job with Veterans Health Administration in Martinsburg, WV

Martinsburg, WV is located approximately 75 miles Northwest of Washington DC and approximately 85 miles Northwest of Baltimore, Maryland. Martinsburg is one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Martinsburg VA Medical Center offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine. Patient care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers that follows the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient.

Martinsburg VA Medical Center is seeking a Section Chief of Cardiology. The Physician is directly accountable to the Chief of Medicine.

Position Summary: This physician will help increase efficiency and productivity throughout the unit, and proactively communicates with the Medical Staff Department, the Chief of Staff and other members of the team to assure optimum results. Provides oversight for: consultations, evaluating clinic inpatients and outpatients, and interpreting diagnostic tests such as treadmill, nuclear scanning, Echocardiography, pacemakers and Holter Monitors. This position is 60% Clinical, 40% Administrative.

Section Chief of Cardiology Duties:

• Responsible for Cardiology service efficiency, patient flow, and clinical outcomes, in conjunction with organizational goals and priorities.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
• Ensures that physicians provide optimum patient care by assessing the skill set of physician’s diagnostic and treatment plans, performance and documentation of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within their scope of individual privileges.
• Participates in staff evaluations, communications and counseling.
• Will represent the interests of the unit to appropriate committees.
• Responsible for and participate in educational programs for the inpatient unit personnel
• Updates and develops inpatient policies and procedures.
• Reviews and responds to concerns reported through the Joint Patient Safety Reporting (JPSR) program.
• Participates in personnel, purchasing, and procedural changes in the Medicine department.
• Other duties as assigned by Clinical Service Chief or Chief of Staff.
  
  

Recruitment Incentive: May be Authorized.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50–55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 days paid absence for CME)

Work Schedule: Primarily 07:30am to 4:00pm weekdays, but can vary depending on the needs of the department.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

• Board certification required.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
  
  

Preferred Experience: 2 years of Demonstrated knowledge and ability in a physician managerial role.
