Workday Certified Subject Matter Expert (SME) Location: Dallas
Employment Type: Long Term Contract
Position Summary
The Workday Certified SME is responsible for leading the design, configuration, implementation, and optimization of Workday modules across HR, Finance, Payroll, Talent, and Integrations. This role requires deep functional and technical expertise in Workday, handson configuration experience, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable Workday solutions.
The SME will partner with crossfunctional stakeholders, lead Workday enhancement cycles, ensure system governance, and serve as the primary Workday advisor for enterprise initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Workday Functional Leadership
- Lead endtoend Workday configuration, testing, deployment, and production support across assigned modules (HCM, Recruiting, Talent, Absence, Payroll, Finance, Integrations, or Security).
- Translate business requirements into Workday functional designs, configuration, and technical specifications.
- Manage Workday releases, regression testing, and adoption of new features.
- Serve as the Workday expert for audits, compliance, and system governance.
System Configuration & Optimization
- Configure Workday business processes, security roles, calculated fields, condition rules, EIBs, and dashboards.
- Optimize existing Workday configurations to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
- Develop and maintain Workday reports, including advanced, matrix, composite, and BIRT reports.
Integrations & Technical Support
- Support Workday integrations using EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, PECI, PICOF, and REST/SOAP APIs.
- Troubleshoot integration failures and coordinate with technical teams for resolution.
- Ensure data integrity, perform data loads, and support mass updates.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with HR, Finance, Payroll, IT, and Compliance teams to gather requirements and deliver Workday solutions.
- Provide Workday training, documentation, and knowledge transfer to business users.
- Act as the primary liaison with Workday Support and external implementation partners.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure Workday configuration aligns with internal controls, audit requirements, and datasecurity standards.
- Maintain documentation for business processes, configuration decisions, and change management.
- Support SOX, SOC, and internal audit activities related to Workday.
Required Qualifications
- Workday Certification(s) in one or more modules (HCM, Recruiting, Talent, Payroll, Finance, Integrations, Security, Reporting, etc.).
- 5 10 years of Workday functional/technical experience.
- Handson expertise in Workday configuration, business process design, and reporting.
- Strong understanding of HR, Payroll, Finance, or Talent business processes.
- Experience with Workday integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Studio preferred).
- Ability to lead crossfunctional workshops and drive solution design.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multiple Workday certifications across HCM, Talent, Payroll, or Integrations.
- Experience in Workday implementation or largescale enhancement projects.
- Knowledge of Workday Security Model and rolebased access.
- Experience with Workday Prism, Adaptive Planning, or Extend (optional).
- Prior consulting experience with Workday partners or enterprise clients.
Education
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, HRIS, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
