Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting in the preparation and reconciliation of financial statements. Performs a variety of duties in order to support senior management and adhere to production.
WORK LOCATION: Hybrid - 3 days week onsite in Norfolk, VA / 2 days week remote.
Key Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Responsible for assisting in and some development of accounting process improvements, conversion support, other duties as assigned
- Participate in and oversee aspects of the monthly close process
- Perform general ledger reconciliation and resolve discrepancies and problems, including proactively resolving complex accounting issue with minimal guidance
- Assist in preparation of financial statements: ensure the accuracy of the financials and audit/ tax preparation
- Compile and provide analysis of reports to include cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable, profit and loss, fluctuation analysis, and other items pertinent to operation of business
- Prepare journal entries, work papers, and other items as needed
- Perform limited review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, flux analysis, and other items as needed prepared by staff accountants
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley is maintained for responsible areas
- Manage, coordinate or assist in special projects, as required
- Work with, train, and assist in developing junior staff
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 2-5 years related accounting experience
- The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.
- Strong computer skills required. Must demonstrate intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook. Possess / develop working knowledge of the Company’s accounting and other systems.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Must be able to research tax and accounting information on the internet.
- Must be able to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies across areas of organizational responsibility.
- Must be able to understand accounting guidance and principals to independently resolve accounting issues, make informed decisions, and provide recommendations to management with minimal guidance.
- Required to work weekends and evenings if necessary.
