What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Development position at PowerOptions, Inc.?
PowerOptions Connect is seeking a Director of Development to help build the fundraising foundation of our growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This is a unique opportunity to join at the ground level and help scale programs that bring the benefits of clean energy, resilience, and decarbonization to communities across New England.
While the role is initially structured as a one-year position, it is expected to evolve into a permanent leadership role as PowerOptions Connect continues to grow. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced fundraising consultant who has been supporting the organization since its launch.
PowerOptions Connect is the nonprofit sister organization of PowerOptions, New England's largest nonprofit energy-buying consortium serving more than 800 member organizations. Our mission is to help nonprofits, municipalities, schools, and underserved communities access clean energy solutions and climate resilience resources.
Our programs include:
- SolarShare – expanding access to the economic benefits of solar energy
- Community Resilience Hubs – strengthening community preparedness through clean energy infrastructure
- Climate Implementation Hub – supporting municipal decarbonization efforts
- Decarbonization & Energy Resilience Support – providing trusted energy expertise and guidance
- Lead fundraising strategy and identify new grant and philanthropic opportunities
- Build and manage relationships with foundations, government agencies, and other funding partners
- Develop compelling grant proposals and oversee grant management and reporting
- Create fundraising systems, pipelines, and CRM processes to support organizational growth
- Partner with program teams to translate impact into powerful funding stories
- 5 years of fundraising, development, or philanthropic partnership experience
- Proven success securing and managing grants and funding relationships
- Exceptional written, verbal, and relationship-building skills Experience managing multiple funding opportunities simultaneously
- CRM experience preferred (Salesforce and Givebutter a plus)
- Energy or sustainability sector experience welcomed but not required
Salary range: $140,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience.
