What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Welder position at PowerBuilt Material Handling Solutions?
Weld it. Build it. Lead from the floor.
Tired of being stuck on the same repetitive welds every day?
At PowerBuilt, you’ll work on custom weldments and equipment—leading jobs from raw steel to finished product, all right here in the shop.
???? Why PowerBuilt?
This is a working lead role—not a desk job:
???? Jeans every day – relaxed, no-nonsense shop environment
???? On the floor, not in an office – you’ll be welding alongside your team
???? Clean, well-equipped shop – we invest in our tools, equipment, and space
???? Stable work – no layoffs, steady pipeline of projects
???? Variety of work – no production lines, all custom fabrication
???? Tight-knit team – welders, machinists, and engineers working side-by-side
???? Consistent hours with overtime when needed
???? What You’ll Do
You’ll be a working lead—handling your own weld work while helping keep the team moving.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
Perform MIG and TIG welding on custom parts and weldments
Read blueprints and ensure builds are accurate
Fit, tack, and weld components to spec
Use shop tools like grinders, torches, and saws
Lead jobs from start to finish on the shop floor
Help prioritize and distribute work across the team
Work closely with the Fabrication Manager and Lead Machinist
Jump in to troubleshoot fit-up or welding issues as they come up
Keep jobs on track for quality and timing
Maintain welding consumables and keep your area stocked
Set the standard for quality and workmanship
Support and guide other welders across both shifts
???? What We’re Looking For
2 years of hands-on welding experience (MIG/TIG)
Comfortable working in a job shop / custom fabrication environment
Ability to read and work from blueprints without hand-holding
Solid understanding of weld quality and AWS standards
Experience with post-machined weldments is a plus
Someone who leads by example—not afraid to jump in and help
Strong troubleshooting skills on the floor
Forklift experience (or willingness to learn)
Willingness to be on-call 1–2 weekends per month
Able to stand, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs
???? Location
Ohio – Bellefontaine
???? Why This Role?
This role is ideal if you:
Want to stay hands-on while stepping into leadership
Like variety—no two jobs are exactly the same
Take pride in clean, high-quality welds
Enjoy working closely with a team to get jobs out the door
Want to help shape how work gets done in the shop
At PowerBuilt, you’re not just welding parts—you’re building real equipment that ships out and gets put to work.
PowerBuilt is an equal opportunity employer.
