Commercial Journeyman Electrician

The Commercial Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial electrical systems for new construction, renovation, and service projects. This role works independently to complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), company standards, and project specifications. In addition to performing skilled electrical work, the Journeyman provides guidance to apprentices, supports project execution, and contributes to delivering quality projects on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a valid Journeyman Electrician license in the required state(s).
  • Install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair commercial electrical systems in accordance with project specifications, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and applicable regulations.
  • Plan, fabricate, and install conduit systems, raceways, wiring, lighting, electrical equipment, controls, and power distribution systems using appropriate methods and tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, specifications, and construction drawings to complete installations accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform electrical testing, identify installation issues, and implement effective solutions while maintaining quality workmanship.
  • Complete daily administrative responsibilities, including work order management, timekeeping, material requests, job documentation, and progress updates using company systems.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, customers, subcontractors, and other trades to support project schedules and resolve field challenges.
  • Lead, train, and mentor apprentices and unlicensed electricians by providing technical guidance and reinforcing safe work practices.
  • Monitor material usage and maintain company tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project efficiency, address customer concerns, and recommend appropriate solutions or additional services when needed.
  • Travel to job sites and participate in on-call assignments as business needs require.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license in Iowa and Nebraska, or the ability to obtain reciprocal licensing as required.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, including low-voltage applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical safety practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing project demands.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, coworkers, and project teams.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment job-related assessment, background check, and motor vehicle record review.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally and 60 lbs regularly
  • Comfortable working at heights up to 60 feet, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts
  • Regularly performs tasks involving squatting, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead
  • Capable of moving and setting up ladders and materials without assistance
  • Ability to identify problems or potential issues in systems and respond appropriately under supervision
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, and electrical hazards with appropriate PPE
