Job Description

Summary/objective: The Political Director will play a key role in advancing and advocating for equality, justice, and empowerment for marginalized communities. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage congregations and communities, promote civic participation, and advance public policy initiatives in alignment with the organization’s mission. The Political Director will work closely with the Executive Director and other members of senior management to build relationships with elected officials, community organizations, and others to advance social justice efforts and drive systemic change.

 Essential functions:

  • Lead, direct and help coordinate all aspects of the organization’s C3 and C4 civic engagement work initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive civic engagement strategy to build awareness, mobilize support, and drive action on issues related to social justice and equality.
  • Build relationships with elected officials and community leaders to advocate for policy changes and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.
  • Organize events, campaigns, and initiatives to promote voter education, registration and turnout among underserved populations.
  • Collaborate with other key staff members and partner organizations to integrate civic engagement efforts to broader advocacy campaigns and initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant legislative and policy developments at the local and state levels and develop strategies for influencing decision-making processes.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to volunteers.

Qualifications:

Core Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong creativity and design skills.
  • Supervisory responsibilities: N/A
  • Work environment: Hybrid with 75% in office (and/or field) and 25% at home
  • Physical demands: 80% sedentary, 3% pushing, 3% lifting and 3% pulling
  • Travel required: up to 50% travel throughout the State
  • Required education and experience: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred education and experience: 5 years experience in civic engagement
