A day in this role You start your shift by donning the required PPE and joining a safety huddle. With work orders and standard work instructions in hand, you move from the temperature-controlled manufacturing floor to occasional office-based documentation, navigating between production cells and final test areas. Throughout the day you:Carry out visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections of equipment built at Powell facilities, ensuring everything aligns with Powell standards and quality specifications.Program and operate electronic devices, including microprocessor-based relays, to validate proper configuration and performance.Energize electrical products and buyout equipment such as service panels, HVAC units, battery chargers, and UPS systems.Perform failure investigations and root-cause analyses to drive corrective and preventive actions.Execute tests using multimeters, clamp-on meters, voltage detectors, and Hi-Pot equipment; maintain and calibrate test gear when needed.Document all quality control test results and maintain complete, accurate records.Collaborate with shop, engineering, sales, shipping, fabrication, PCR, and switchgear teams—and interact with suppliers, other Powell subsidiaries, and customers—to resolve quality-related concerns.Support in-process reviews, final inspection, and product release to shipping.Log discrepancies, non-conformances, and material shortages in Powell systems.Contribute to continuous improvement projects and proactively identify risks to product quality.Promote a safety-first culture and attend all safety meetings; keep your work area organized and clean.Continue to build on core electrical principles and relevant mechanical know-how. Minimum qualifications High school diploma or GED, or a trade school diploma/certificate.1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.Ability to interpret prints and technical documents: specification sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, three-line drawings, wiring lists, and part drawings. Preferred background Hands-on quality inspection experience with electrical/electronic equipment or components.Working familiarity with industry codes and standards and the ability to reference and apply them. Work may involve ladders (step, A-frame, extension), scaffolding, and heights generally up to 30 feet using proper lift equipment. Physical demands Maintain balance and agility while walking, standing, crouching, and using stairs.Frequent bending at the waist and knees; repetitive reaching and extension of arms/hands.Prolonged standing and walking (50–300 feet at a time) with limited sitting.Frequent stair climbing during the shift.Regular overhead work and use of both arms at full extension.Apply continuous force with upper extremities up to 50 lbs.Use hand and power tools (including vibrating tools) such as tin snips and hammers for extended periods with frequent repetition.
