Position Overview

The Senior Accountant supports the accounting and financial management of Powder’s development and construction projects. This role ensures accurate financial tracking, reporting, and reconciliation of all expenditures and capital projects tied to real estate, infrastructure, and resort expansion initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, thrives in a dynamic environment, and enjoys working cross-functionally with accounting and the development and construction teams to ensure financial integrity and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Management

• Prepare and post journal entries related to development and construction activity, including capital expenditures, work-in-progress, and project closeouts.
  
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and reconcile balance sheet and project-specific accounts on a monthly basis.
  
• Support the preparation of monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports specific to development operations.
  
• Ensure accurate coding of development-related invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports in accordance with company policy.
  
• Track and reconcile project budgets against actual costs, highlighting variances and assisting in cost control measures.
  
• Assist in cash flow forecasting related to development activities, including vendor payments and draw schedules.
  

Project & Construction Accounting

• Collaborate with the Development and Construction team to review project budgets, contracts, and change orders for proper financial recording.
  
• Monitor progress billing, retainage, and lien releases for contractors and subcontractors.
  
• Assist in preparing and reviewing monthly draw requests for lenders or partners.
  
• Maintain detailed project cost reports and provide ongoing financial updates to project managers and leadership.
  
• Ensure compliance with capitalization policies and GAAP standards for construction-in-progress and asset transfers.
  

Auditing, Compliance & Reporting

• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and reconciliations as needed.
  
• Assist in maintaining accurate financial documentation and ensure records meet company and regulatory retention standards.
  
• Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure all development-related accounting practices align with company policies and internal controls.
  

Collaboration & Process Improvement

• Partner with cross-functional teams—including Finance, Development, Construction, and Operations—to streamline communication and ensure timely financial data.
  
• Identify opportunities for process improvements in project accounting, reporting, and documentation workflows.
  
• Support other accounting functions as needed, including AP, AR, and fixed asset management.
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  
• 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate development, or hospitality industries.
  
• Solid understanding of GAAP and project accounting principles.
  
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) and Excel. Procore experience a plus.
  
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments.
  

Preferred Attributes:

• CPA or progress toward CPA designation preferred.
  
• Experience with job cost accounting systems or construction management platforms.
