 The Personnel Commission is now accepting applications to fill current and anticipated positions within the classifications of Custodial Supervisor I/ Custodial Supervisor II. 
 This recruitment will be used to create two eligibility lists (I & II) that will be good for one year and will be used to fill current and future vacancies.***

**Custodial Supervisor I positions are based at Middle Schools, Custodial Supervisor II positions are based at High Schools.  Both are generally day shift positions. All are full time positions with benefits**

Current vacancy: Mesa Verde Middle School (Custodial Supervisor I)
*This position is 40 hours per week/ 12 months per year at Mesa Verde Middle School and is Benefits eligible*

Custodial Supervisor I PUSD Classification Salary Range:  $5,102 - $6,182 per month
Custodial Supervisor
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range (for external candidates) : $5,102 per month (step 1) - $5,822 per month (step 4)

Custodial Supervisor II PUSD Classification Salary Range: $5,494 per month - $6,658 per month
Custodial Supervisor II Anticipated Hiring Salary Range (for external candidates): $5,494 per month (step 1) - $6,270 per month (step 4)

Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission.

Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates.  The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent,  job classification and will be active for a period of one (1) year (Merit Rule 50.100.1).

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a middle school administrator, plan, organize, supervise, and participate in maintaining an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility by performing a variety of cleaning and custodial maintenance duties; provide equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; monitor and maintain inventory and operating budget; train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; minimize property damage, loss, and liability exposure.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Custodial Supervisor I – The Custodial Supervisor I classification is assigned to a middle school during the school day and performs custodial maintenance, planning, and supervisory responsibilities.
 
Custodial Supervisor II – The Custodial Supervisor II classification is assigned to a high school during the school day and performs custodial maintenance, planning, and supervisory responsibilities.  This classification is differentiated from Custodial Supervisor I by the added level of complexity inherent to the facilitating of extra-curricular activities on a high school campus as well as supervising a larger staff.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
  1. Supervise, schedule, and perform custodial services required to maintain public areas at the middle school in a neat, clean, sanitary, and safe condition; confer with school administration regarding custodial and maintenance needs of school buildings, grounds, and facilities. E
  2. Supervise and participate in the activities performed by day and night high school custodial staff. E
  3. Participate in the interviewing and selection of assigned staff; train, assign, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; prepare and revise work schedules as necessary; organize work to be completed and inspect completed work; establish and enforce work priorities; prepare and maintain time sheets for assigned staff; maintain a variety of personnel-related records. E
  4. Formulate monthly/annual budget projections; monitor, order, and maintain proper inventory levels of custodial supplies and equipment; maintain purchasing and inventory records; operate program in a fiscally prudent manner. E
  5. Prepare and maintain a variety of records related to payroll, facility usage, inventory, crime and accident incidents, assigned activities, and other related matters through written or electronic means. E
  6. Facilitate the use of school facilities by PUSD and non-PUSD groups; coordinate, delegate, and participate in preparing classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings; set up and arrange chairs, tables, and other furniture and equipment for special events and activities; assign personnel to special events, sports events, school dances, and extra-curricular activities; delegate or assist with clean-up of furniture, equipment, and debris following these events. E
  7. Communicate with District personnel, outside agencies, and others, through written or electronic means, to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. E
  8. Communicate with inspectors from various local, state, or federal entities; ensure compliance to associated regulations. E
  9. Inspect school facilities to ensure that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identify necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc. E
  10. Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns by taking appropriate action to resolve issues and maintain a functioning educational environment.
  11. Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; report need for maintenance repairs to appropriate authority.
  12. Unlock or lock doors and gates as appropriate, assuring facilities are properly secured; raise or lower flags, storing as necessary; perform security check on facilities; set alarms.
  13. Coordinate the safe disposal of unneeded materials or refuse.
  14. Coordinate the permanent or temporary installation of various displays such as banners, marquees, or other signage.
  15. Operate a variety of custodial equipment used in the cleaning and maintenance of school and district facilities such as vacuums, mops, floor buffers, and strippers, wet dry vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners, power washers, small hand and power tools, and other equipment as assigned.
  16. Maintain custodial equipment in clean, safe, and operative condition.
  17. Provide assistance to maintenance staff as needed by making first-level, non-technical repairs such as replacing lights, adjusting shades or blinds, and assembling or adjusting chairs or furniture.
  18. Lead and participate in thorough cleaning and restoration of district facilities during school recess periods.
  19. Receive, store, and distribute instructional supplies, custodial supplies, furniture, and equipment as necessary.
  20. Operate a motorized maintenance cart to conduct work.
  21. Perform the duties of a custodian as assigned or needed.
  22. Participate in ongoing trainings and staff development. 
  23. Perform related duties as assigned.
At the end of some of the duty statements, there is an "E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification.
Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and three years of custodial work experience including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity, preferably in a school or similar environment.
 
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Proper methods, techniques, materials, cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment commonly used in modern custodial and general maintenance work.
Principles of supervision, training, and providing work direction.
Operation of mechanical equipment commonly found in public schools.
Appropriate Health and Safety regulations, safety precautions, and procedures.
Proper wear and usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Operation of motorized maintenance cart.
District and site policies, procedures, and objectives of assigned program and activities.
Inventory methods and practices.
Basic budgeting practices.
Basic math skills such as using calculations, fractions, percentages, and ratios.
Record-keeping techniques.
Oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills including the usage of assigned software, such as Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.
Proper lifting techniques.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 (Minimum Salary) of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
