IMMEDIATE PreK and Kindergarten Assistant Teacher, Part-time

Overview
Poughkeepsie Day School (PDS) seeks a part-time Assistant Teacher to join our PreK and Kindergarten class. This is a part-time position with hours from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on all days that school is in session.

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, and creative educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about working with young children.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with the lead teacher to plan and deliver instruction in core subject areas
• Assist in assessing student progress, maintaining records, and contributing to family communications, including reports and class newsletters
• Participate in student-family conferences
• Support classroom routines and community duties
• Tailor instruction to individual student needs, based on a shared scope and sequence
• Communicate regularly with specialist teachers about student progress
• Coordinate with faculty, families, and outside specialists to support student growth

Ideal candidates should possess:

• Prior experience working with young children in early childhood and/or elementary settings
• Formal early childhood training or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice practices
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum and progressive pedagogy
• A deep interest in the age group, content area, and the craft of teaching
• Collaboration skills, flexibility, curiosity, and a sense of humor
• An openness to professional growth and school-wide initiatives
