PCB Assembly Equipment Technician

Potter Electric Signal Company
Roanoke, VA Full Time
POSTED ON 7/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/26/2026

Build Technology That Protects People

Imagine starting your afternoon by bringing a production line to life. You power up the SMT equipment, load reels, dial in programs, and watch the first boards of the evening roll out precisely populated—components set to do important work in schools, hospitals, and communities. That’s a typical start to second shift on our PCB assembly team at Valcom.

A Day in This Role

From 4:00 pm until 2:30 am, Monday through Thursday, you’ll run the automated machinery that builds the circuit boards at the core of every Valcom product. You’ll:

  • Set up, operate, and change over surface mount (SMT) and through‑hole assembly equipment for different products
  • Calibrate and program machines for specific layouts, components, and feeder arrangements
  • Inspect boards throughout the process to uphold strict quality expectations
  • Keep materials stocked and complete routine preventive maintenance
  • Troubleshoot mispicks, alignment issues, and other line disruptions with your team

There’s frequent overtime available on Fridays (and occasional Saturdays) to meet demand. This is a second‑shift position with a $1.00/hour shift differential on top of base pay.

Where You’ll Work

Our clean, climate-controlled manufacturing floor in Roanoke, Virginia, runs at low to moderate noise levels. You’ll be on your feet moving between workstations, handling small parts, and using hand tools while seeing tangible progress every shift.

Grow With Us

  • No previous experience required—if you’re mechanically inclined, detail‑minded, and dependable, we’ll train you on SMT and through‑hole processes
  • Real opportunities to cross‑train and expand your skills across the assembly line
  • Small-team feel where people know your name, backed by the resources of a proven industry leader

About Valcom

Valcom has built paging, intercom, and emergency communication solutions for nearly 50 years. Almost all products are engineered, manufactured, and supported in our 120,000‑square‑foot Roanoke facility. We’re now part of Potter Global Technologies and offer a distinctive employee ownership program backed by KKR. As a co‑owner, you’ll have a direct stake in our success and share in the value we create—an uncommon advantage in our space.

Benefits include a 401(k) match, PTO, 10 paid holidays, an emergency grant program, and free financial advising.

What You Bring

  • Mechanical aptitude and a problem‑solving mindset
  • Strong attention to detail—our products help protect people, so quality matters
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to read instructions in English
  • Team orientation with a willingness to cross‑train and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to stand for a 10‑hour shift, lift up to 25 lbs, and work with small components and hand tools
  • Availability for overtime—frequently on Fridays and occasionally on Saturdays
  • Experience is a plus, but we hire for attitude and train for skill

Schedule Highlights

  • Monday–Thursday, 4:00 pm–2:30 am (four‑day work week)
  • Plenty of Friday overtime available
  • $1.00/hour shift differential for second shift
  • Mornings free for errands, appointments, or extra rest
