Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP, a leading Delaware law firm with a diverse business practice, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for treasury management, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and supporting both internal and client-related requests. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accuracy, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting the firm’s financial operations.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform daily treasury management, including monitoring bank activity and fraud prevention services, and initiating transfers between accounts and vendor payments.
- Manage client trust and retainers including verifying attorney authorization, monitoring trust reserves and ensuring compliance with firm policies and applicable regulations.
- Manage bank transactions for real estate settlements
- Prepare weekly working capital analysis for management review
- Manage payroll-related account transfers and post activity to general ledger
- Serve as primary backup for other key accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, and partner distributions
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Reconcile monthly operating and trust accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Reconcile monthly credit card transactions
- Prepare monthly employment and gross receipts tax returns
- Prepare monthly journal entries and support the month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare documentation, analyses, and support for external audits
- Collaborate with billing and collection teams to support cash flow management
- Assist in reporting from financial dashboards currently in development
- Assist with ad hoc projects as directed
REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
- Minimum 2- to 4- years of relevant accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, staff, vendors, and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Aderant and Power BI experience preferred.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced business environment
