Overview:
We’re looking for a passionate Apparel Designer who will be responsible for collaborating with the Merchandising, Product Management, Design and Technical Design teams to create styles for 6 deliveries annually. This process involves attending development meetings, (and one on one follow-up meetings with the buyers, as needed), creating tech packs in PLM and eventually releasing those tech packs to overseas vendors, communicating with vendors and team members regularly during the development process, daily commenting on various submits such as lab dips, strike-offs, etc., attending fit meetings and commenting on fit and Photo samples.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Attending initial development meetings when the Merchant team presents the styles to be developed for a season. The Designer is encouraged to offer input as silhouette, fabric selection and colors are discussed.
- Continued collaboration with the buyer as the development process continues
- Creation of tech packs using PLM: includes sketching the garment using Adobe Illustrator, adding embroidery, fabric, and trim details that apply, discussing measurement requirements with the Technical Designer, and once measurements have been added, releasing the tech packs to the overseas vendors
- Daily interaction and problem solving with all teams in Product Development and Merchandising as well as overseas vendors
- Daily review of submits received from overseas vendors. This often involves scheduling meetings with the buyer to review fabric qualities, vendor CAD designs, lab dips, strike-offs, hand looms and trims. All comments, changes, approvals are conveyed to vendors and “next steps” are outlined
- If required, ability to offer print, pattern or embroidery direction to the buyer by researching Shutterstock print service options or other sources
- Awareness of Time and Action calendar and milestone dates is critical throughout the development process.
- Review 1st fit samples and attend initial fit meetings to discuss all needed adjustments or changes, and enter this info into PLM.
- Review Photo samples and enter comments into PLM.
Qualification Requirements:
- 4 years of relevant apparel industry work experience.
- Good design aesthetic, including awareness of proportions, color balance, etc.
- Knowledge of garment construction, stitching techniques, knitwear terms, etc.
- Knowledge of fabrications and yarn qualities.
- Knowledge of embroidery and embellishment techniques.
- Ability to create accurate technical sketches of woven, knit and sweater garments using Adobe Illustrator.
- Focus on learning/using WFX PLM system to create tech packs, sample requests, approvals
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field is preferred.
