Overview
POTESTA is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to be based in our Charleston, West Virginia headquarters. This position will oversee the firm’s financial operations, including accounting, reporting, and financial management. The selected candidate will work closely with executive leadership and department managers to support financial planning, project performance tracking, and overall business operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, client billing, and payroll.
- Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
- Oversee tax compliance activities, including B&O, sales and use, and other state and local tax filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain business licenses and registrations, ensuring compliance with all state and local requirements.
- Coordinate audits and work with external accountants and financial advisors.
- Support cash flow management and financial planning efforts.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–10 years of relevant accounting/finance experience preferred
- CPA or CMA designation preferred (but not required)
- Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) compliance and experience with the preparation of FAR financial reports
- Experience with project-based accounting (engineering or consulting industry a plus)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with leadership and project teams
