A “Day in the Life” of the Electrical Application Engineer
Act as an Electrical Application Engineer for our production systems and related equipment, responsible for electrical design, instrumentation, and system application. Work closely with the Control Systems Engineer and Manufacturing & Sustaining Lead to ensure seamless integration between electrical hardware, control logic, and mechanical systems. Translate process and operational needs into robust electrical and instrumentation solutions.
General Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Application
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics (24VDC control and 480VAC power systems).
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., UL).
- Own the electrical hardware layer, including power distribution and panel design.
- Adapt and develop solutions for evolving production units and site-specific requirements.
- Instrumentation & Integration
- Identify, select, and implement suitable sensors, actuators, and field instrumentation.
- Ensure correct physical implementation and signal integrity toward control systems.
- Support definition of I/O structure in collaboration with the Control Systems Engineer.
Commissioning & Support
- Perform FAT activities (incl. I/O checks) together with the Control Systems Engineer and Field Test Engineer.
- Support commissioning and electrical troubleshooting in the field.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain electrical documentation, schematics, and manuals.
- Ensure safe design and operation of electrical systems.
- Collaborate across disciplines using PLM tools.
- Vendors & Supply Chain
- Follow up with suppliers of electrical equipment (panels, VFDs, instrumentation).
Secondary Responsibilities
- Support development and testing of new concepts and improvements.
- Contribute to standardization of electrical designs and practices.
