About the Role
The Shop Service Technician is responsible for completing repair and preventative maintenance on cattle feeder and farm equipment. Specializing in feed truck hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair. Other duties may include rebuilding feed wagons, addressing spreader issues, performing oil changes, and diagnosing, welding on, and repairing farm equipment of all types.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair farm and cattle feeding equipment, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Use diagnostic tools to evaluate equipment performance and interpret schematics and manuals
- Work closely with the service manager and other shop technicians to troubleshoot issues, prioritize work, and complete repairs efficiently and on schedule
- Maintain accurate repair worksheets, customer logs, and job records; enter repair details and labor hours into the Blackpurl computer system
- Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and status updates clearly with customers and the service team
- Keep tools, shop areas, and service equipment organized and in good working condition.
- Rotational on call night and weekends with other ship technicians (typically every four to five weeks)
- Load and unload new and used equipment upon arrival, following safe lifting and rigging practices
- Perform welding and fabrication as needed to repair or rebuild farm and cattle feeder equipment
- Pursue ongoing training and learning opportunities to improve technical skills and stay current on equipment and repair methods
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair agricultural and cattle feeding equipment.
- Customer focused mindset with clear communication and a commitment to doing the job right.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with the shop team to meet schedules and turnaround goals.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to use software to complete work orders and time entries.
- Eagerness to learn and stay current with training, manuals, and new equipment updates.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required.
- 2 years of related experience, or an associate degree in a related program (preferred but not required).
Preferred Skills
- Welding, hydraulic experience, plasma cutting, torching, troubleshooting
- Operating forklifts, payloaders, tractors, and service trucks
- Efficient work habits, safety-conscious thinking, and attention to detail
