Position: Residential Counselor
Location: Owings Mills, MD 21117
Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time | Non-Exempt
Compensation: Starting at $17.00 per hour
Work Location: In Person/Multiple Locations (Randallstown, Owings Mills, Reisterstown, Towson, Baltimore City & County)
Physical Setting: Residential – Group Homes

Overview
The Residential Counselor at Positive Pathways supports adults with intellectual disabilities ("Individuals") in a residential setting. Responsibilities include providing direct care, daily living assistance, promoting independence, facilitating community integration, and ensuring health and safety. Accurate documentation and teamwork are essential to support the individual’s personal growth and well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Direct Care and Support
- Assist with daily activities such as personal hygiene, feeding, toileting, and dressing
- Encourage participation in household routines while respecting individual independence
Behavior Management
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Respond appropriately to behavioral incidents and crisis situations
Daily Life and Activity Support
- Help facilitate social, recreational, and therapeutic activities
- Support community involvement and goal achievement as outlined in ISPs
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily logs, incident reports, and health updates
Health and Safety
- Monitor for health or safety concerns
- Administer medications according to prescribed protocols
- Follow infection control and safety procedures
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with case managers, therapists, and family members
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development events
Transportation
- Provide safe transportation to activities and appointments
- Maintain transportation logs accurately
Compliance
- Follow all agency policies and regulatory guidelines
- Complete mandatory training including DDA modules, CPR/First Aid, BPS, and more
Possible Shifts (Subject to Operational Needs)
- Monday–Friday: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Saturday & Sunday (Evening): 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Saturday & Sunday (Overnight): 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience or equivalent education/training
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Capable of following written, oral, and diagrammed instructions
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Certifications and Licenses
- Valid Maryland Driver’s License with acceptable record
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Medication Administration (CMT)
- Bloodborne Pathogens Certified
- Completion of all DDA and state-mandated training
Other Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Ability to work in diverse environments, indoors and outdoors
- Ability to operate required equipment and vehicles
- Must pass a physical exam and TB test to be considered
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for long periods and walk considerable distances
- Frequent lifting (up to 20 lbs), occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs)
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and crouching
- Must work safely around potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Moderate to high noise levels
- May include video/audio monitoring for safety
