Position Summary
We are seeking a Licensed Mental Health Clinician to join our growing practice on a contractor basis. The clinician will provide high-quality, evidence-based mental health services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and/or families, depending on their area of expertise.
This role requires strict adherence to Florida Medicaid guidelines, payer requirements, and professional ethical standards, including accurate documentation, medical necessity, and timely completion of all clinical records.
Minimum Requirements
- Active and unrestricted Florida license in one of the following:
- Master degree or Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Family Therapist, Counseling or other related field.
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- Must be authorized to practice independently in the state of Florida
- Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Experience providing psychotherapy services (minimum 2-5 years preferred)
- Knowledge of Florida Medicaid documentation and medical necessity requirements (preferred)
- English (fluent)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual, family, and/or group therapy services
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and establish medical necessity for services
- Develop, implement, and maintain individualized treatment plans in accordance with Florida Medicaid guidelines
- Deliver evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, ERP, Trauma-Focused therapies)
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the EHR, including:
- Progress notes
- Treatment plans
- Treatment plan reviews/updates
- Discharge summaries
- Ensure all documentation:
- Is completed within 24β48 hours of the date of service
- Includes clinician signature, credentials, and date
- Clearly reflects medical necessity and skilled intervention
- Participate in case consultations and supervision (when applicable)
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure proper billing and documentation compliance
- Adhere to all Florida laws, Medicaid regulations, and professional ethical codes
Florida Medicaid Compliance Responsibilities
- Maintain active Medicaid provider eligibility (if credentialed under Medicaid cases)
- Ensure treatment plans:
- Are completed within required timeframes (e.g., within 30 days of intake, per Medicaid standards)
- Include measurable, individualized goals and objectives
- Are reviewed and updated at least every 6 months or as clinically indicated
- Ensure all services billed:
- Are medically necessary
- Match the documented service provided
- Are supported by appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Comply with Medicaid audit standards, including:
- Consistency between treatment plan, progress notes, and diagnosis
- Documentation of client participation and response to treatment
- Maintain readiness for internal and external audits
- Follow requirements for supervision documentation if working with interns or registered trainees
- Avoid prohibited practices, including:
- Upcoding or misrepresentation of services
- Billing for services not rendered
- Late or backdated documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with:
- Florida Medicaid or managed care plans
- Trauma-informed care
- OCD and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
- Child and adolescent populations
- Psychological or neuropsychological assessment (for LPs)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Familiarity with EHR systems
Work Schedule
- Flexible schedule
- Option for part-time or full-time caseload
- Evening (1-6 pm) and/or Saturday (8-12 pm) availability preferred
Compensation
- Compensation is based on a per-session rate (varies by payer and service type)
- Independent contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits
